South Cambridgeshire among the districts to benefit from broadband funding
Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) was formed to ensure availability of at least 2 Mb broadband to the whole of UK within one year and next generation broadband to 90% of the UK population by 2015. A number of internet service providers are taking part in the government initiative to provide super fast broadband to both urban and rural areas. According to BDUK, super fast broadband refers to a download speed of not less than 20 Mbps. There is no maximum limit. South Cambridgeshire is one of the areas badly in need of super fast broadband. A fund of GBP 70,000 has been earmarked for the district, a part of which is for the broadband development. The improvement of transport system and trade and commerce is also to be achieved. The Council may ask for more funds with a view to ensure better economy and development of the region. Nick Wright, who is attached to the economic development wing of the Council remarked that the investment will do a lot of good to the county, especially the rural areas which will no more be isolated. The council is determined to do all the help needed by the businesses as it will result in the development and economy of the place. Early next year the council will review as to how far it has succeeded in meeting the needs of the businesses in their effort for progress.
