Somerset County Council calls households to respond to broadband survey
Households in Cheddar, Highbridge, Burnham, Shipham and Axbridge are asked to respond to a broadband survey. Somerset County Council is making efforts to bring better broadband services to the area. They are inviting more than 10,000 households in the areas to respond to the postal and telephone broadband survey. The survey covers internet speeds and internet usage. The collected information will help the county to secure a broadband investment. With the investment, the area would receive up to 24Mbps broadband speeds. At present, just four per cent of properties in Somerset have access to high speed broadband. The scheme aims at offering minimum of 2Mbps broadband speeds to everyone in South West within 2020. Partnering with North Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay councils the scheme has been able to collect £51million. Broadband Delivery UK has offered £31million for ensuring improved broadband service in the county. Cabinet member for strategic planning and economic development of Somerset County Council, Councillor David Hall requests every one to participate, claiming that more investment from private sector was required. To ensure better broadband and to reach rural areas, they need to collect evidence from people asserting strong demand for the super fast broadband. Super fast broadband is must have for a county like Somerset as it has become an everyday utility.
