Monday, January 21st 2019

The small businesses in the city of Leeds now can get access to Connectivity Vouchers, a subsidy backed by the Government. The vouchers are having worth from £500 to £1000 and this will help the small businesses to get new broadband network connection with 30Mbps+ to cover the cost of connectivity. The subsidy was launched in the year 2017 with more restrictions on meeting its eligibility criteria initially.

But now, the businesses can apply for such vouchers if they want to get a new (30Mbps+) broadband connection or if they are already having network connection under 30 Mbps speed and want to upgrade or having 30+ Mbps and want to double the speed also. The voucher is designed to help the businesses to cover the cost including installation, hardware, virtual servers, software licenses, network cabling, consultancy/ project management cost.

However this funding is separate from Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (worth upto £2500 voucher). The regional Digital Enterprise programme, a business support programme that helps eligible businesses in city of Leeds in achieving their digital transformation, has been distributing the funding of such vouchers. As per the programme, the SMEs are eligible to get up to 250 vouchers on first come, first served basis and this programme will be valid till May 2019.

For those satisfying the eligibility criteria can apply online to the voucher scheme. The applicants need to get quotations from ISPs and send it to In turn the programme team will send them a funding agreement and on receipt of signed agreement, the applicant can ask the suppliers to do installation work. Then need to send the proof of work completion through a claim form and they will arrange to fund to pay them. For more information, please visit

Head of Digital Enterprise - Muz Mumtaz said that they want to provide more access to such Connectivity vouchers to businesses in Leeds to enable them to equip with faster broadband network with their funding. Most of the cases, their vouchers will help to cover the entire cost of upgradation of network connection. The method is also very simple. Digital Enterprise has already helped with their funding for more than 700 businesses in Yorkshire in improving their broadband since 2017.
SMEs in Wakefield can also get benefited now.
