Scottish CBI urges the UK government to provide super fast internet

Broadband has become inevitable not only for individuals but also for commercial and industrial establishments in the whole world. It is no more a luxury.

That being the case it is not surprising that CBI has given the nod for a broadband drive in Scotland for introducing a business oriented super-fast broadband facility.

The main aim of the drive is to narrow down the digital divide between the UK and Scotland.

The UK government has been asked to make available 3G accesses on top priority basis. The 4G auction should not be delayed any further and must take place before the end of the year at any cost.

But Ofcom, the telecom regulator, is unable to provide a firm date for the auction due to the non-co operation from some of the network providers.

Iain McMillan the CBI director of the Scotland remarked that next generation broadband is vital for the success of the business and economy. In fact the business concerns and the residents should be able to avail the fastest download speeds. Only a sound 3G service will enable the region to compete globally. There should not be any ‘notspots’ or slow speeds in any of the areas of Scotland. The UK government should take the initiative. The communication sector has to give importance to innovation.
