‘Say Yes to Better broadband for Norfolk’ campaign picking up
The aim of ‘Say Yes to Better Broadband for Norfolk’ is to arrange for 30 Mbps superfast broadband to all the counties and to provide at least 2 Mbps speed to all the residents of the UK by 2015.
The campaign is for establishing the commercial demand to attract private investment for the proposal.
The Norfolk County Council and EDP have teamed up together in an effort to provide 30 Mbps broadband to the household and business communities in the county.
About 300 printed forms filled up by the EDP readers have been already delivered to the County Hall.
The project leaders are happy with the response from the users, but they remarked that thousands of filled up forms will be required which will tempt the authorities to take suitable action.
Karen O’Kane, the programme director for the ‘Better Broadband for Norfolk’ team is excited at the response. But she is of the opinion that there is still a long way to go. It has been estimated that 140,000 properties in Norfolk are without superfast connection. There are more than 50,000 users struggling with a speed of 2Mbps or less. It is necessary that all of them should fill up the application form. Only then the authorities will wake up.
He wants even those with good connectivity to put in the application because there may be their brothers and sisters elsewhere in the county where the connection speed is too low. They have to look into the interest of the whole county.
Even those getting 5 to 10 Mbps should not keep quiet. As time goes on they will realize that their speed is not good enough. They must try for 30 Mbps straightaway.
