Rural Dorset to receive government broadband funding
Rural Dorset is to benefit from government’s broadband funding. The government is working to offer high speed broadband services to different areas in the UK. Dorset is the latest area to benefit from the improved broadband services. Under, the £1.3million Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) scheme areas in rural Dorset will receive better broadband connection. Government funding will be used to connect the areas with broadband service of up to 24 megabits per second (mbps).
For installing the infrastructure, the government will offer an additional £9.44 million. This money will be funded completely by the Dorset councils. County council contributes £6.6 million as it share. To raise the fund, every town, parish, borough and district council of the county council should contribute their share. West Dorset District Council is contributing £1,259,834.
This new improvements and funding will bring super fast broadband services to 12,278 rural properties. Communities and businesses can take advantage of improved broadband speeds. Since, 38% of properties in West Dorset receive less than 2mbps broadband speeds investments like this is very necessary.
To make this initiation a great success, local authorities and communities should bring about a change and support the cause.
