Portland Obtains Super Fast Access to The Internet
Portland received high speed broadband accessibility and the heads of British Telecom better known as BT have called it a forerunner of the Olympic Games sailing events.
Approximately 600 households and business enterprises in Portland will be able to avail the advantage of the telecom giant’s broadband most recent delivery and the island would be in the same league as Wimborne and Boscombe with reference to the accessibility of super-fast broadband facilities.
The officials in BT informed the Marine and Environment Partnership meeting of the Town Council of Portland that about 26,000 Dorset properties could avail accessibility to the high speed technology. They also stated that more plans were on the anvil.
High speed broadband facilities are just getting started in Broad-stone, and the company has promised that their new high speed network would ensure that an additional 100,000 properties throughout the county would be ale to avail of their high speed broadband towards the latter part of the current year. Places included in this rollout would be Bournemouth, Dorchester, Weymouth, Verwood, Blandford, Poole and Ferndown.
Regional Manager for BT south West, Michael Dunn stated that the coming of the high speed broadband infrastructure in Portland was a great encouragement for the homes and businesses in that locality in the year of the Olympics.
He added that this would never have been planned if it had not been for the Olympics and that it was a rather premature inheritance for the county. He also hoped that it would be a further step towards rejuvenating the economy of the island.
Mr. Dunn stated that in these financially trying times the arrival of super-fast broadband Internet could alter the understanding of the Internet for the people of the island.
With BT being the Official Communications partner for the Games, the firm is offering their Infinity broadband package free of cost to about 19,000 officials and athletes in the country. This is part of their contract with the London 2012 Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Committee.
