People at East Riding Encouraged to Comment on the Bid for Better Broadband
Local residents and the business firms in East Riding have been encouraged to log on to the website that has been newly developed to express their opinion about better broadband in their region. They have been informed that if they are inclined to have high speed Internet connectivity at their homes or for their businesses, they could visit the website http://broadband.eastriding.gov.uk and fill up the survey forms that will be made available on the site from the 1st of February 2012 till the autumn season. Since the government has made it very clear that it would like the UK to have the most excellent broadband network in Europe in another three years, there seems to be a new momentum behind the projects to enhance reliable broadband facilities. This implies that East Riding could expect to avail access to super-fast broadband in many of the areas where the speeds are unsteady and slow. However the government requires proof to see how the broadband provided as of then was working in the locality for both residents as well as for business firms and the county council would be requested to bid for government grants to obtain enhanced broadband facilities. The council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Performance, Improvement and Partnerships, Councillor Jonathan Owens had said that the providing reliable broadband was imperative for East Riding on the whole to ascertain that the region was not lagging as and when the broadband facilities carry on getting better. The East Riding Local Broadband Plan drawn up by the council would be able to point out the places where grants would be required to establish both basic broadband and also to provide high speed broadband as the need for the facilities swells.
