North Devon town avails faster broadband
Thanks to BT’s effort, 17,000 homes and businesses are set to enjoy higher speed broadband in Instow.
It is one of the five places in Devon to benefit from the upgrade and to get broadband speed of 20 Mbps.
BT has invested £2.5 billion for fiber broadband to make available fast connectivity to 66% of the UK population by 2014. That will further increase to 90% by 2015.
BT is also going ahead with copper network installation separately.
Ben Rhodes of Devon and Cornwall Business Council stated that in the current days where speed is most important for every activity, it is inevitable that local businesses and households are able to enjoy faster connectivity. That is necessary to develop the skills and education of individuals.
Bideford will be one of the UK towns to benefit from the fiber broadband deployment of BT in the next year.
Jon Reynolds of BT informed that at present 77% of South West homes and businesses can access faster broadband. Within one year the figure will rise to 84%.
But there are more things to be done. There are challenges, especially in remoter areas. The local councils will be coordinated to get the things done such that the people get maximum benefits.
BT’s effort is praised by most of the county councils.
