Norfolk residents back up campaign for faster broadband
A campaign to bring improved broadband is backed up by Norfolk residents. Till now, this campaign has attracted over 5,000 supporters. By creating awareness among people about the benefits of faster broadband in Norfolk, this initiative is calling residents cross the county to register. The campaign is named as Say Yes to Better Broadband and is run by Eastern Daily Press and Norfolk County Council (NCC). The initiative is aimed at encouraging the ambition of the local authority to bring 30Mbps fast broadband to properties and homes in the area.
Programme director for the Better Broadband for NCC, Karen O'Kane was happy about the progress the campaign was making. However, to bring connectivity more has to be done, she added. Currently, 50,000 properties cannot access connection of a minimum of 2Mbps speeds and 140,000 cannot receive faster broadband. Faster broadband will help the county to compete more effectively.
To achieve improved connectivity, more people should register their support. The campaign has already attracted 5,000 supporters for now and it aims to attracting more. More residents are called to back-up the campaign. She said that the figure should be high enough to impress the private sector.
As per the broadband plans of the council, the rollout for faster broadband will start next January. By 2012, all the residents in Norfolk could access to broadband speeds with a minimum of up to 2Mbps download rates.
