Neglecting the rural UK, broadband providers concentrate on towns and cities says CLA
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) is of the opinion that all the broadband providers in the UK are brushing aside the interests of the rural communities and are concentrating on the cities and towns which already have good internet services. The rolling out of super fast broadband is being carried out in places already having faster internet access. The CLA head of rural development, Dr. Charles Trotman observed that the rural communities are once again losing their fight for super fast broadband. The rural houses and businesses are repeatedly being ignored by the authorities despite the hue and cry made by the rural communities. He said that Virgin Media, one of the largest communications providers in the UK has made an announcement last week that it is going to provide 100 Mb broadband services to ten million homes and businesses in the UK. He criticized the firm’s policy of neglecting the rural regions and rolling out super fast broadband to UK’s towns and cities which already have high speed internet access. The communications authorities as well as the providers should have given priority to remote areas where the services of broadband are much valued. He wanted the telecom authorities and communications providers to rollout their super fast broadband in rural areas with insufficient broadband rather than concentrating on doubling the internet speeds in the towns and cities.
