Millions of Users Badly Affected by O2 Blackout

The unfortunate crash in one of its systems at O2 have left thousands and thousands of their users without voice or information facilities and O2 is putting all its efforts to get services going and running all over again.

The network operator asserts that the 2G services had been restored for people who had been hit and is asking the 3G users to switch off 3g in order to be able to get and make calls and send text messages.

O2 stated that they can affirm that their 2G facilities are completely restored and that users who had been hit would be in a position to make and receive calls.

The firm said that their 3G facilities are in the process of being restored and users could anticipate a slow but steady restoration of data services through the course of the day. Users who had been affected have been advised to switch off and then turn on their mobile phones as the facilities are restored.

The network operator said that since the issue was affecting users all over and not in just a certain region, they were not able to find out exactly how many users were hit, nevertheless information from within the firm informed PC Pro that hundreds of thousands of customers were affected as per the feedback they had received.

The blackout in the service was supposedly due to a subset of users who were not able to register on to the network. In a statement put forth by the company, O2 said that the confirmed that the problem was caused by a fault in one of their network systems which implied that certain mobile numbers were not properly registered on the network, and consequently users were having problems making and receiving calls making use of data or sending text messages.

The problem was also creating a problem with GiffGaff as well as Tesco mobile users whose services are connected to the O2 network.
