Legal action has been taken against BT, the telecommunication giants and broadband provider for negligence concerning roadworks in London.

ISpreview.co.uk reported that the telecom stalwarts and Cable and Wireless have been found accountable for several defectively handled roadworks in London.

BT was levied a fine of 3,765 pounds by the Westminster magistrate’s Court and was also ordered to pay an amount of 5,050 pounds as prosecution costs for wrong doings that also included carrying out work without sanction, violating terms in the permit and also for not informing Transport of London of the works they had planned to carry out.

Managing Director for surface Transport, Mr. Lionel Daniels stated that the offences related to roadwork by any services company could create critical interruption to people utilsing the roads thereby affecting business in the locality of the capital.

Mr. Daniels also stated that such companies should be conscious of the fact that they authorities would go on taking legal action wherever violations take place. He added that they would carry on trying to bring down interruptions due to works on the roads throughout London to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and everyone else using the roads can experience hassle free travel.

BT is planning to invest 2.5 billion pounds for the upgrading their nationwide broadband facilities such that it would be compatible with the new fibre services.
