KC’s “lightning fast” internet connects 15,000 premises in East Yorkshire
Hull telecoms provider KC said that 15000 premises across East Yorkshire would be enjoying the benefits of “the lightning fast” broadband thanks to the fibre cable installation. It has been trialed in 350 households in the Great Thornton street area and in Woodmansey. Currently, Karoo, the internet provider of KC is able to provide an average top speed of ten Mbps. At the same time the present network speeds is expected to be up to 100 Mbps. Once it is achieved, a music album could be downloaded in two seconds and a high definition film in two minutes and a television show lasting one hour in 31 seconds. A consumer, Daniel Wheal, of Cambridge Street, West Hull who was connected during the test trial said he felt that his internet was working hundreds of times faster than before. He continued that streaming videos and HD-quality movies takes no time. He also added that this “lightning fast” is going to change the life of the people. This massive project involving million of Pound project is aiming to replace copper cables with fibre optics which would be directly connected to people’s homes. This will increase the broadband speeds and capacity. By the end of 2012, 15000 households and businesses will be provided with the new “KC Lightstream” and “KC Lightstream Business”. In east, west and north Hull, 10,000 premises and 5000 premises in Baverley and some East Riding villages would be installed. Baverley’s Grovehill area is scheduled to be the first to be endowed with the new super-fast broadband. The installation is expected to commence on the 6th February. Fibre installation is expected to rollout in Priory Park business park in Hessle, Barnsley Street, Belmont Street and Buckingham Street, Off Holderness Road east Hull, East Riding villages including Skidby, Hull city centre, Kingswood, Parts of Greatfield, and Victoria Dock in east Hull, Parts of Sutton and Pickering Park area west Hull. The work of expansion will continue through out next year across the region. Kelvin Walsh, the Chief Executive said that the company has ventured on this challenging fibre-rollout programme. The aim is to make sure that our customers are provided with the very best communications facilities in the UK. At lightning speeds our customers would have world information, entertainment and communication at their finger tips. He added that in the modern times people live their lives online, whether at home or in workplace. The broadband growth paved the way for an explosion in the communications sector, social media and entertainment. Same way the lightning –fast broadband would bring new venues of opportunities that would change our life in many ways. The new fibre broadband services of KC offer six packages for customers, starting from 25 Pounds a month and for businesses five packages ranging from 25 Pounds to 100 Pounds per month. The feedback from the persons that took part in the trial was also considered for developing the packages. The customers are given the option to have a download speed from 45 Mbps to 100 Mbps according to their needs. An array of download allowances, up to a 600 gigabites is offered to consumers. Mr Walsh said that the investment in this fibre rollout is the beginning of something special. It is an investment for the better prospects of East Yorkshire which will have the potential to change the region’s fortunes. It will make East Yorkshire a hub of private and public sector investment.
