ISP Internet Central Builds Gigabit Full Fibre to Stafford Businesses

Saturday, August 31st 2019

UK ISP Internet Central has announced that they’ve almost completed Phase One of their new “Gigabolt” project to deploy a Gigabit capable “ultra fast fibre broadband” network to connect a number of businesses in the town of Stafford (Staffordshire, England), with those on the large Beacon Business Park being the first to benefit.

The new Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) network, which has been partly funded by the Government’s £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (grants worth up to £2,500 per business to get a Gigabit capable connection installed), is also being supported by ISE estates and Andrew Bramhall.

We believe that this is the first time Internet Central has built their own full fibre infrastructure directly to their customers, although they do operator their own national MPLS network backbone and have previously unbundled (LLU) a number of BT’s exchanges to support their wider carrier neutral setup.

At present the details are rather limited, although you can see a video of their fibre optic contractors at work on the project below. We’ve also added a second video of the site itself. The plan is build into more areas in the future, although exact details are not yet known.
