BT, the communications provider in the UK announced that according to the latest phase of the company’s nation-wide rollout programme, in Cheshire more than 20,000 businesses and homes and another 10,000 in Greater Manchester will have access to super-fast broadband connections by next summer. Sandiway, Bollington, Hartford, and Prestbury in Cheshire and Mottram and Standish in Greater Manchester are the latest areas to be provided with super-fast broadband. Thanks to BT’ investment most businesses and homes in the UK would be provided with broadband speeds up to 20 Mbps which is more than double the maximum speeds previously available in these areas. More than 895,000 businesses and homes across Greater Manchester are already provided with super-fast broadband connectivity. By next summer 90 per cent of the region will be covered. BT’s North West Regional Director Mr Mike Blackburn said that no other company is doing what BT is doing to roll out faster broadband across the North West. The country is passing through economic uncertainty and the deployment of superfast broadband would certainly provide a boost for local businesses. It would also provide additional entertainment and educational opportunities for local households. Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Mr Clive Memmott said that as far as the future success of the region is concerned, super-fast broadband is going to play a very important role. In the modern digital technological world, where survival of the fittest is the rule, the local households and businesses should be equipped with high-speed sophisticated communications then only they can compete in the global market.
