Hyperoptic starts digital skills academy in Southwark
One of the UK ISPs Hyperoptic has two days back started their first ever Digital Skills Academy in Southwark of London to benefit the local people. The academy will help to train around 50 volunteer champions with free training and in turn they can then offer digital skills training to the residents of the borough. Southwark is vital location for Hyperoptic, as the ISP has entered into agreement with local authority to reach around 1 Lakh + premises getting access to 1 Gbps full fibre networks which covers 53000 of council homes, 46000 of others and 1000 of commercial units. The ISP also offer their networks services for six libraries in Southwark in which their training will take place at some of the places such as Peckham, Camberwell, Canada Water, Grove Vale, New Walworth, Dulwich, Kingswood. The volunteers will include students expecting to improve their CV, residents looking to improve skills and the library staff. The training will include an introductory session by We are Digital specialists and followed by 15 hours of online courses. The training includes banking, digital essentials, government services, recruitment and teaching skills. CEO of Hyperoptic - Dana Tobak said that they want all to get access to best and reliable digital services and their skills academy will help to connect more people in Southwark. Southwark is having better and fastest broadband access available to the residents and businesses in the borough. Cabinet Member for Jobs - Councillor Stephanie Cryan said that they feel delighted that Hyperoptic is starting this new academy programme. The role of the volunteer champions is valuable for the community. The council wants to ensure their residents to get great opportunities to get the benefits of digital revolution and the new initiative will help to offer such opportunity. All the volunteers will be asked to spread and share the knowledge they are going to gain to the entire community.
