Highlands and Islands are connected with poor broadband speeds and this has hampered the lives and business in these regions. This issue had remained a matter for concern during these past few months. Businesses and properties in these areas can benefit largely from improved broadband speeds. Shirley Spear and her husband operating The Three Chimneys on Skye claims that social networking sites have played a significant part to boost their sales. With good broadband connections businesses can reap more benefits.

Located in the north, these couples have been utilizing the communication technology. However, they are bothered about the poor connectivity and speeds. People in the areas are worried about the poor broadband speeds and mobile coverage. With low connection speeds, these areas will be left behind the next generation broadband race. A good connectivity is required for businesses in the region to compete with the rest of the UK.

Liberal Democrat MP for verness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, Danny Alexander considers the broadband speeds in Inverness as a disgrace. Highlands and Islands Enterprise are carrying out discussions with BT and if everything goes well the areas will receive "super fast" broadband very soon. By 2013, the rollout for high speed broadband will begin. Politicians in the areas have expressed their grief regarding the poor connectivity, last year.
