High speed broadband for Knighton shortly
Apart from Knighton in Radnorshire, another 16 towns including Ammanford , Crickhowell, Leanly, Mold West, Tenably Welshpool etc will be benefited shortly on account of BT’ s efforts to bring next generation broadband thorough copper lines.
BT’s target is to cater to the needs of 90,000 homes in Wales. A download speed of 20 Mbps is expected. Some towns a like Caerleon, Newport, Mumbles, Swansea etc are aleready enjoying the same speed.
The needs of Newtown, Cowbridge, Menai Bridge, Mountain Ash etc. will also be taken care of by BT.
BT informed that the service is open to companies providing broadband, on whole sale basis.
Ann Beynon, in charge of BT’s operations in Wales is thrilled at the initiative of her company for the betterment of Wales. Availability of most modern communication system is inevitable for the progress of any community, especially in the current challenging economic circumstances. In the absence of it businesses will lag behind other cities and towns of the country. Naturally the economy will falter. The time has come when even for the normal households fast internet is a must for the minimum basic communication or entrainment needs.
The exchange serving 71% of the customers in Wales will be upgraded by summer, and from then onwards faster internet will be available.
Apart from the copper network installation in Wales, BT is going ahead with GBP 2.5 billion project of fiber based broadband to fulfill the requirements of 66% of the UK population within the next three years.
