Google Cardboard VR headsets to be given away by BT

As part of BT's promotional drive for the UEFA Champions League, the telecom giant will be giving away Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headsets. BT Sport is filming the final game using 360° cameras and broadcasting the match in 360° VR, on the 3rd June, Saturday. Viewers can get an immersing view of the game, as if they are seeing it pitch-side or sitting in the crowd. The match between the two teams of Real Madrid and Juventus, is a battle of European giants, out in Cardiff. The match will be streamed via YouTube. A new BT Sport Virtual Reality App will help viewers choose either a 360° produced programme that includes graphics and commentary, or pick their own viewpoint camera.


Pete Oliver, MD for BT Consumer, said they were delighted to give people the chance to get these headset for free, enabling viewers to get closer to the action. He believed VR can offer an immersive second screen view and enhance their coverage. They believe they will be broadcasting the biggest multi-camera live 360° sporting event, for the first time ever to customers.


To get the Google Cardboard, football fans can register and get it online from the BT Shop. Or they can get from 23 May Tuesday, from EE stores across the UK. The headset giveaways will also be at mainline train stations of Birmingham New Street, London Liverpool Street and London Waterloo.
