Gloucestershire population set to get proper broadband service
The main aim of the UK government in launching the Broadband Delivery UK project (BDUK) is to bring at least 2 Mbps broadband to the whole country. Its secondary aim is to ensure the availability of ‘next generation broadband’ to 90 percent of the population before the end of 2015.
The local councils of South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon have united to make the goal a success. A reliable service provider will be selected to go ahead with the work.
John Goddard of the South Gloucestershire Council said that this is good news for the residents of the area who are currently fed up with the poor internet service. The combined effort of the three councils will be helpful in speeding up the things. This will also ensure substantial savings in costs.
South Gloucestershire will become the first county council in England to engage private players to execute the projects for improving the infrastructure and the networks.
An online survey has been launched to get an idea about the level of uptake of the service. The survey will last till the end of February.
Goddard informed that the councils are going ahead with the plan to the joy of the residents and businesses of the three places. He assured that once the task is accomplished, the households and business concerns will be highly benefited socially and economically.
