Created around two main points of access, the scheme would then be provided to the other areas of the town.

Mobile operators in the UK, O2 has announced that they have ideas to introduce a Wi-fi zone free of cost in London. The company states that it would be the largest in Europe.

According to BBC, a Transport for London spokeswoman stated that this venture was expected to be finished by March with facilities comprising of tools being put up on lamp-posts and other things at about 120 stations.

People living in and visiting Westminster and Kensington in London would be able enjoy a free Wi-Fi area that would come up in the near future thereby allowing them to share information and images of the London Olympics and various other programmes.

Derek McManus, the Chief Operating Officer of O2 stated that their extended objective was to widen O2’s Wi-Fi that would remain open to all and sundry. This they hope would astutely improve O2 facilities at street level where it was required most. He stated that this revolutionary scheme would find the company offering excellent quality broadband connections fro the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London.

The company stated that the Wi-Fi would be set up around two major points in two boroughs and gradually provided to other portions of the city.

John Hunt belonging to broadband review site hinkbroadband.com mentioned that some other networks were providing Wi-Fi at locations like coffee-shops. Nevertheless he was doubtful if those facilities were strong enough to withstand extra traffic when the Olympic Games started and he also stated that wireless broadband may be slow.

Some of the world’s well known towns like New York and Paris had free Wi-Fi zones and London too would soon be in the same league.
