Forty Seven Scottish Towns in BT’s Plan for Broadband Facilities
BT’s had targeted the coming summer for covering what they hope would be a pretty good area with high speed broadband facilities. The places that have been included in the list of BT’s plans are Selkirk and Hawick.
Selkirk will be one of the 47 communities that would obtain super-fast broadband connectivity. As per the telecommunications stalwarts, around 11,000 houses and business enterprises situated in and around Selkirk and Hawick would be able to avail of super-fast broadband access by the coming summer.
Once the facilities are provided in these two border towns, the people living there would be in a position to enjoy maximum speeds that would be two fold greater that what they had been able to access earlier. The company has already invested 2.5 billion pounds for providing high speed fibre-based broadband services in the country.
By the end of the next three years it is anticipated that this venture would provide two thirds of the properties in the UK with faster broadband connectivity. The news that Selkirk has been included in the broadband roll-out by BT is welcome news particularly when the overall economy state of the country is in bad shape.
Chairman of the Local Chamber of Trade, Mr. Gordon Edgar was of the opinion that whatever could help local business houses to improve would be greeted warmly. He stated that it was great news for them and that businesses had to be able to access each and every instrument that they can get to assist them in survival and in offering them the competitive edge. He also stated that high speed broadband would be more than welcome in the rural regions of Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys.
