Fast internet is not the source of cyber crime, says UK minister
It is believed that fast internet increases cyber crime, especially in the case of small and medium enterprises.
But this has been ruled out by Mark Prisk, the Business Minister. He confirmed that fast broadband in no way makes the small and medium firms targets of cyber attacks.
However he agreed that the chances of threat are more because of the higher usage.
He advised all users in the UK including the investors and businesses not to get panicky about the criminals but to go ahead making optimum use of the internet facilities, which will pave the way for growth of the region.
However, it is essential for every individual and establishment to be aware of the means to get protection in case of any attack.
The government has earmarked GBP 650 million to provide safe internet to the entire UK for the next four years. Out of this, GBP 65 million is exclusively for settling computer related crimes.
The government is ready to answer to all queries from business and the public
and give its advice on internet safety.
Prisk’s comments followed the warning of Neelie Kroes of European Commission that
e-commerce is badly affected because of the refusal by the users to go online out of fear from attack.
Almost 40% of the public make purchases through the web, but online payment is not yet considered safe. The result of it is that e-commerce forms only 3% to 4 % of the whole retail trade in the European continent.
