The European Commission has put forward a suggestion that any act of disconnecting the broadband internet connection of the online illegal filesharers without some kind of court process should be avoided.
This was explained by the European Commissioner for Information, Media and Society, Viviane Reding while she was speaking out against the plans of the Spanish government to disconnect broadband internet users from the web, without a judge's involvement.
TorrentFreak quoted Reding as saying that the measures proposed by the Spanish government to disconnect the illegal downloaders' access to internet without a fair hearing before a legal authority were certain to clash with the stance of the European Union in the context.
The European Commissioner added that such broadband internet access disconnections may be as a matter of fact, contrary to the freedoms and rights that have evolved as a part of the values of Europe since the French Re3volution.
In other veins, the European Commissioner's comments hint at some hurdles that may be faced by the proposed anti-online piracy legislation of the government of the United Kingdom that toes similar lines.
A number of broadband providers in the United Kingdom including TalkTalk and Be Broadband have stated recently their concerns over the proposals that are featured in the digital economy bill that was published recently.
