Conwy’s broadband needs overlooked by the authorities

The Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) was formed in March 2011 by the UK government to be responsible for achieving the following goals:

1. Provide at least 2 Mbps broadband to the whole of UK

2. Make available next generation broadband to 90% of the UK by 2015.

A number of reliable and established service providers have been entrusted with the job, the largest of them being ‘BT Broadband.’, which has to cater to the needs of 66% of the UK population by 2014. BT’s execution is in progress in all counties.

Surprisingly, Conwy County is not in its list.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the assembly member is disappointed about it and so is the entire population of the county.

He is afraid that without proper broadband the county will lag behind the neighboring counties. The place is one of the most beautiful of all in the UK and tourists throng to the place throughout the year. But the absence of fast broadband will seriously affect tourism. The current situation is that the tourists skip the place without fast communication connectivity.

Mike Learmond, belonging to the ‘Federation of Small Businesses’ stated that the current plans of the government are not enough to reduce the digital divide between the rural and urban areas. It is for the government to provide the proper broadband access throughout the country uniformly. That alone will initiate healthy competition among the businesses countrywide.

A spokesperson of BT remarked that it is for the Welsh Government to interfere in the matter and coordinate with BDUK and BT to do something for Conwy.
