BT’s broadband plan is to benefit more than 34,000 households and business concerns in Cambridgeshire. More than 50 ‘East of England’ towns will be provided with next generation broadband service with copper lines, by the summer of 2012. A download speed of 20 Mbps will be available for the consumers. It may be noted that the current average speed in the UK is only 10 Mbps. This is in addition to BT’s plans of providing even faster broadband to 66% of the UK by December 2014. The aim of the Cambridgeshire County Council is to make available super fast broadband to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It will help to improve the businesses of the places and the standard of living of the subjects. Ian Bates, the Councilor of Cambridgeshire County remarked that reliable and faster broadband service will pave the way for economic stability and development. High speed communication will be immense use to the households and business establishments. Internet access from home will be of great benefit to the users as they do not have to travel to the market place or shopping centers to get the access. Dave Hughes of BT stated that at the current prevailing economic uncertainties, the development in communication service will do a lot for the local businesses, student communities and the households. He wants that the service should be available in the entire county irrespective of its geographic locations.
