BT’s scheme for fast broadband for 98% of the population

Ofcom’s proposal early this month to increase broadband coverage to 98% of the country population is widely appreciated throughout the country.

Nicholas Soames, the Mid Sussex MP is one of the staunch supporters of the ‘better broadband coverage’ campaign in Mid Sussex, West Sussex etc.

Almost 6million countrymen are still in the ‘notspots’ mainly in the rural region.

In October 2011, the UK government sanctioned an additional amount of GBP 150 million for rural broadband coverage.

In November 2011, the Select Committee of the Department of Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) had ridiculed the telecom regulator Ofcom’s target of 95% broadband coverage.

But Ofcom is sure that once 4G comes through the target can be achieved. All the current notspots will get the signals. Those with 2G signals at present will get 4G signals.

Soames remarked that once BT’s proposals materialize the fortunes of thousands of individuals and hundreds of small and medium establishments will become bright. At present they are constrained by poor coverage.

Better broadband will certainly change the face of rural Mid Sussex and West Sussex. The students will benefit by taking up online studies. The Commerce and trading will have significant improvement, which will create employment opportunities for the youth.

Ultimately the economy of the country will augment.
