UK’s top telecom provider BT is also one of the largest employers in the UK and having a workforce of around 82,800 people. In the last week, BT has announced that they have created around 1600+ jobs for this year in the form of new apprenticeship and graduate jobs. These will be spread over the areas of TV production and cyber-security, engineering and customer service including in EE & Plusnet.

With this recruitment, a part of the workforce will be placed at their development and testing labs at Adastral Park (near Ipswich), Suffolk. The centre is engaged in development of 5G mobile technologies, ultrafast broadband and artificial intelligence and hence the new recruits will get a chance to engage to help the operator in bringing 4G coverage extension and building of future ready 5G technologies.  Others will be placed at various UK locations such as London, Belfast, Glasgow, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Warrington.

The above recruitment is apart from Openreach’s plan of hiring 3000 engineers for delivering their on-going FTTC, FTTP and roll out deployments in the country. BT launched Work Ready programme in the year 2014 and this was specially aimed for NEETS (those Not in Education, Employment or Training). Around 6500+ across the country have participated and reaped the benefits.

By this drive, the appointed apprentices, as a part of their work, can achieve foundation/full degree courses, whereas the graduates can get a chance to secure fully funded qualifications. BT is offering such schemes along with a partnership with local colleges, universities and training partners.

HR Director of BT Group - Alison Wilcox said that they feel proud to be a top employer in the UK for recruiting apprentices/graduates and making investments in training of thousands of people by providing digital skills to prosper. They can attract more people through their apprenticeship and graduate programmes and developing highly skilled workforce. He is looking forward to welcome all the new recruits who are joining the company.
