BT in the process of bringing 300 Mbps to the residents of the UK

BT plans to bring super fast broadband of 300 Mbps to around 1000 apartments. The residents have been asked to take part in the trial.

The service provider will be adopting the fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology. The users will be getting a speed of 100 Mbps initially, which will be subsequently raised to 300 Mbps at the option of the users.

Apart from the user’s interest, the permission of the landlord also will be required. Both have to approach the service provider. The landlord will be interested as it will be attractive to the future tenants. The users, of course, want to capitalize on the service.

BT is already doing the trials of 300 Mbps connections, and is waiting for ‘registration of interest’ from both the residents and landlords in the Canary Wharf, London.

BT’s effort is a part of its scheme to provide 66% of the UK premises with super fast broadband by 2014, for which as much as GBP 2.5 billion has been allotted.

Through ‘Broadband Delivery UK’ scheme, the government is distributing the required amount of cash to the county councils for the improvement of the infrastructure. The Local authorities also have to make available equal amount of finance.

The council has to act fast; otherwise the government may be forced to taker back the money, according to the cultural secretary Jeremy Hunt.
