Hampshire is in the throes of getting ready to welcome quicker broadband download speeds after the proposals presented by the county council were accepted by the government.

The county would be able to avail of a grant of 5 million pounds that the government had allocated for them from the total funding of 8.4 million pounds.

The previous year the county council in Hampshire had presented the broadband delivery UK with an amended local broadband draft. They have also said that they would match the grant of 5 million pounds through local public and private funding.

The Broadband delivery UK is a venture supported by the government to guarantee that every person in the UK would be able to access broadband. The grants would be helpful in delivering speeds of a minimum of 24mbps to over ninety percent of the households and business firms in the country.

Councillor, Hen Thornber, the Council Leader for Hampshire stated that he was happy and proud that his county had been able to qualify for the grant and he added that it was vital for the success of the county. The council anticipates that the contract would be given in December and states that the venture would be finished in three years from now in the year 2015.
