Broadband rollout in North East Fife
BT, the giant in the communications market in the UK, is still going on with its aggressive deployment of fibre installation which started last year. As per the original schedule fibre deployment is to be completed in 2015 but the provider is determined to complete the work one year ahead of its former target. Now we are in the second week of January and there is no sign of slowing down of work by BT.
The BDUK’s (Broadband Delivery UK) program and BT’s deployment schedule aim to provide to the entire country universal broadband access of at least 2Mbps. It is also the objective of the Government to provide at least 90 per cent of the UK citizens, with next-generation broadband services by 2015.
By next summer three more north east Fife communities will receive the benefits of super fast broadband services. BT has revealed its rollout plans and stated that Wormit, Newport and Ladybank are the three north east Fife communities that are going to be benefited by the rollout. As a result of the rollout around 23,000 businesses and households in the Fife communities would have their broadband connections upgraded.
The director of BT, Scotland, Mr. Brendan Dick stated that at a time when the country is passing through economic uncertainty, the improvements in the broadband would definitely be a great help to the Fife communities to boost their businesses and it would also provide entertainment as well as educational opportunities to local households. He added that the firm wants to provide faster broadband to geographically and commercially challenging areas and for this purpose the company is looking forward to work with the public sector.
Mr. Rod Campbell, North East Fife MSP, mentioned that he was really happy with the Government’s decision of making investments in the communication sector in the North East Fife which would give the towns and villages an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of next generation broadband.
Mr. Bob Garmory, the president of the Fife Chamber of Commerce mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce had fought tooth and nail for this standard of broadband to be made available to businesses through out the Fife. He also welcomed BT and added that the Chamber would keep an eye on the business profits in those areas which are covered by broadband and also work for the rollout of broadband to the rest of the areas in the Fife.
