Broadband plans for South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon
South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon county councils have joined together to ensure superfast broadband access to the counties well ahead of schedule.
The procurement process is being initiated and a private contractor will be entrusted the work related to infrastructure improvement.
South Gloucestershire is already well ahead of others in the broadband plans.
The government will sanction a part of the amount for the scheme.
Bids from the private players will be invited in the spring of 2012 and the contractor will be finalized by the following summer. If everything goes on well, the work will be stated by December of 2012 and will be completed by the end of 2013.
75% of the South Gloucestershire homes are already enjoying the superfast service. With the help of the state-aid the whole county will be catered. The council is making an online survey among the subjects to know about their demand for improved service.
John Goddard of the county council remarked that the whole population of the county is excited about the initiative of the government in making available fast connectivity.
When the three counties join hands, it will make things easier for the councils and the contractor and the roll out will take place earlier than expected, which will give immense joy to the mass.
