Bright prospects expected for Cornwall and Devon in the year 2012
The business leaders of Westcountry have asked the people to forget about the gloomy 2011 and hope for a bright 2012.
Andrew Williams of Cornwall branch of Country Land and Business Association (CLA) and Laura Leigh, his counterpart in Devon have high hopes for the future.
Williams is confident that Cornwall will raise tom the challenge and try to be a national leader in this area.
He is sure that the superfast broadband will change the face of Cornwall if the interest of the rural areas also is taken care of.
Cornwall has taken the initiative to form Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)
In coordination with the LEP chairman Chris Pomfret, the National Farmer’s Union and the Cornwall Agri-Food Council, Williams would determine the measures to safeguard the rural economic issues of the place. The county is optimistic about the renewable sector as well. The opportunities here must be made proper use of. This will enable to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.
Williams hopes to see growth in marine, tidal and wave sectors also.
CLA is working hard on the issues of bovine TB and reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The European members within the CLA, including the UK, are striving to establish the correct solutions.
Cornwall has done well to overcome every hurdle on its way with novel and creative solutions.
The opinion of Leigh of Devon is also not different. She also feels that Devon will face challenge on CAP reform, broadband service, food and farm security, planning, taxation etc in the New Year.
