Bedford council makes all efforts for high speed broadband
Bedford Borough Council has formed a consultation wing to expedite availability of high speed internet to the whole county, especially the rural areas, where access is very poor. The council is ready to garner GBP One million to achieve this.
Broadband Delivery UK is expected to grant GBP 44,000 for the purpose. Bedford Borough Partnership Board should also provide that much of finance. The balance will have to be procured from European agencies and private sectors.
Local authorities have to submit their proposals regarding super-fast broadband to the government latest by the end of February. The government will give the approval in April after studying it and holding discussion with the council members.
If there is any delay in submitting the proposal, Bedford may miss the state aid.
75% of the residents and 85% of the local businesses in Bedford support the broadband proposal.
Dave Hodgson, the mayor of Bedford Borough remarked that with improved broadband service the residents will be better placed to access the net and utilize the broadband enabled facilities. The rural communities also will be catered. In fact, the business communities are badly in need of super fast broadband, which should be provided to them at the earliest. That is why the council is determined to make things move. The consultation has been formed with that idea in mind to expedite the government funding.
