Basic home maintenance needed for better internet access

Wednesday, June 20th 2012

Efficient internet service can be attained if the users take some extra care. A bit of home maintenance like checking and setting right loose connection, tightening of wires, making firm connections to adapters, sockets etc, ensuring the quality and proper size of cables for the internal wiring and so on will do a lot in the broadband availability.

Assuming that the broadband speed is 7.6 Mbps, there are instances that the users get less than 50% of that speed. The main reason for that may be a minor loose connection between the phone line and the device or the computer.

The users they must periodically check up all connections and ensure that they are firm. At the time of installation they have to ensure that the wires are of the proper capacity and quality.

Another common problem is the improper configuration of the router.

Such common faults prevent applications like BBC Player from functioning as it requires at least 3.2 Mbps speed for its HD video.

It is important that ADSL filters are installed in the lines. ADSL modem or router should be firmly connected directly to the master phone socket. Otherwise the speed may drop.

The people must give the same level importance to broadband as they do for electricity and water. Negligence on the part of the user will amount to waste of the energy.
