Apps to Routers Being Introduced by Netgear for ‘Smart Networks’
Netgear by launching eight brand new items at CES is planning to provide apps to networks. This would be based on the company’s dream of a “smart network”.
The heart of this is in no way connected to hardware, however it is a cloud application server and consumers would be in a position to download applications through the server for their Netgear gadgets.
The Vice president of Product Development at Netgear, Mr. David Henry said that in the same way as the feature phone developed into a smartphone, where you could utilize ever so many applications to customize the device and increase the value of the hardware, Netgear was changing the network into a “smart network”
The vice president demonstrated an application that could be utilized to keep track of the amount of data that was downloaded every month, wherein one would permit you to share information and images with friends and relatives, while the other provided the regulatory measures regarding who had right to one’s wireless network. The network is being converted into a “smart network “by Netgear.
The software can be created either by Netgear or any other third party developers because of the open development platform, thereby offering third part developers, irrespective of whether they are software or hardware associates, the capabilities to develop software that can run on Netgear’s “smart network” said Mr. Henry.
The software would run only on Netgear devices and the vice president declared many items that could make the most of the system.
One router that is yet to be named and to be released by the year end would include 802.11ac WLAN that provides 1.35 Gbits per second bandwidth in comparison to the 450Mbits per second of the 820.11n.
Netgear considers the media as the heart of the coming networks and launched the 2TB Media Storage Router (WNDR4700). This is a combination of dual-band 802.11n wire-free networking with plenty of storage and permits one to stream HD video to any device that is connected to the Internet like a smartphone, tablet or TV.
It is also compatible with backup by default for Apple as well as Windows PC and the point is that people can link two external herd disks through three of its USB ports.
The new N900 Dual Band Wireless Router would be compatible with the Smart Network applications and the N900 Dual Band USB Adaptor that is provided with it would help to support to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz to laptops that are not dual band.
The company also assures that it would convert dead spots into something outdated with its dual-band WN2500RP, Wi-Fi extender.
Mr. Henry stated that everyone had their location where they may not be able to avail of a network connection, like a bedroom at the back, the backyard or even the basement. He said that it was not always convenient to go out shopping for a wire-free router. At time one has to do with a wireless gateway that the ISP provided them with, and it cannot be undone for fear that the VoIP or video might get upset.
According to Mr. Henry the principle is to insert the WN2500RN midway between the router and the dead spot and this could help to extend the coverage as simply as just clicking on a button.
Some of the other accessories that go along with the hardware are the N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit DSL Modem Router and a couple of Powerline products. According to Netgear, the Powerline 500 Nano is said to be one of the tiniest mechanisms in the world while the N900 Video and Gaming 4-Port Wi-Fi Adapter is exactly what is needed to link up to four wired gadgets to the Wi-Fi router at one and the same time at super fast speeds.
