2.5 billion superfast broadband programme for Wales
In North Wales, as part of a 2.5 billion super-fast broadband programme, more than 32,000 homes and businesses are being covered by super-fast broadband rollout. The latest places included in the list of company’s rollout plan are Mold, Wrexham, and Prestatyn.
In the Wales altogether, as per the present list there are 475,000 businesses and houses to be covered by the new super-fast broadband network. The upgrading work is expected to be completed by 2012. Connah’s Quay and Hawarden are already connected while the upgrading work in Wrexham North, Gresford and Buckley is going on.
The local network business of BT, “Openreach” is trying its level best to extend super-fast fibre broadband to two thirds of the UK premises by 2014.
BT director for Wales, Ann Beynon said the latest major investment in the communications sector is really a tremendous boost for Wales. She added that it would help medium and small businesses to have access to super-fast broadband at lower costs which would enable them to find new markets, create new job opportunities and increase their competitiveness.
She added that super-fast broadband is really a boon for remote and flexible working. They could cut down the office overheads and improve employees welfare by reducing the work load. It is possible to send on line volumes of data in no time. There is no need for any physical delivery to customers. By making use of high quality video calls and voice calls businesses can save time and avoid unnecessary expenditure. She added that now progress is being made at a rapid speed and it will continue through out 2012. Previous month the company has announced that by the end of 2014, two-thirds of the UK premises would have super-fast access.
The chairman of North Wales Economic Forum, Mr Roy Bichan said that no one can underestimate the importance of BT and its role in the North Wales economy. As far as the local businesses and households are concerned access to super-fast broadband is very important. To boost the competitiveness of the firms, to create new jobs and to access news markets, businesses need super-fast broadband facilities. He welcomed BT’s announcement that by 2014, two-thirds of UK’s premises would have super-fast broadband access and also added that the whole community is looking forward to the completion of the work.
