114 Million Pounds from Broadband Kitty to be divided Between Ten Cities
The government of UK has chosen ten cities in the country that will share a sum of 114 million GB pounds of government funding to ensure better broadband speeds and it will not be surprising if London bags the biggest share of the funding, though the other cities will also avail of their requisite shares.
It is anticipated that these funds will be utilised to create high speed broadband networks throughout the ten cities that will have the ability to provide download speeds of up to 100Mbps and hopefully more at a future date. The capital will be given 25 million GB pounds of the grants that have been set aside, with Leeds and Bradford sharing a sum of 14.4 million pounds.
13.7 million GB pounds will be allocated to Belfast, with Manchester receiving 12 million GB pounds, Bristol, a sum of 11.3 million GB pounds, Cardiff will be allocated 11 million GB pounds, Edinburgh 10.7 million GB pounds, Birmingham 10 million GB pounds and Newcastle will be provided with 6 million GB pounds.
The Secretary of State for culture, Media and Sport, Maria Miller who has just recently been appointed stated that the ten selected cities have provided aspiring and detailed plans that will see that they become digital heads giving their local economic status a good thrust forward. This new allocation of funds she said would see that these ten cities will get into the core of the digital stage, vying with the most excellent across the globe for employment as well as investments.
An additional sum of 50 million GB pounds will be provided to another ten cities smaller in size, whose names are yet to be announced. It is anticipated that all the systems involved in the network will be finished in the course of the next three years; by 2015
