LTE is the favourite as world
The latest nail in WiMAX coffin is the announcement of Yota network in Russia. Yota being the second largest WiMAX network of the world is now cashing its chips to switch to LTE. Using the mobile broadband services, Yota connects about 30000 user's approximately.
However, the company is so convinced about the fact that LTE will be the future and is willing to expend in the region of $2 billion to switch its services to the alternative technology. When inquired about the current move, Yota said that 'Samsung and Nokia, the world's biggest operators have chosen LTE standard. Following the global trend, we are also looking to offer our clients the best solutions'.
WiMAX was the first in the rate for '4G' standard implying that early adopters like Yota is been running on WiMAX since 2008. The announcement means that Clearwire, the US company will be the only one remaining WiMAX network of a significant size.
