Although UK broadband market offers a wide range of choices to the customers, when it comes to high-speed connections and other useful features, there are many customers who are not happy with the service quality and reliability of their broadband connections.

While consumer broadband is often offered in heavily contended lines which results in slow speeds, the business broadband also seems to suffer from poor service quality, according to the report released by the Communications Management Association (CMA).

The study shows that many SMEs and professionals that use business broadband are quite discontent with their ISPs and the service offered. Accordingly, nearly 40 percent of the business firms that use broadband connection are reported to have connectivity problems mainly due to the geographical factors etc.

In addition, significant part of the business customers expressed their hope that next generation broadband network like fibre based FTTx would play a great role in changing the overall service quality of the existing broadband services in the UK.

It should be noted that BT, Virgin Media and O2 broadband providers have already announced their plans to deploy fibre optic network in the UK with an aim to provide high speed broadband services to their customers.

Margaret Hopkins, of CMA at Analysys Mason spoke to Computer Weekly:

"The norm is 8mbps, but companies are rolling out 24mbps. People are also rolling out Ethernet over DSL and bonded pair technologies, so you can get up to 24mbps of Ethernet over Easynet”
