The next generation broadband trials of BT criticized
While BT broadband is all set to test its next generation broadband services (fibre optic network) in Ebbsfleet, Ian Fogg, the Jupiter Research Analyst has criticised the ISP for testing much lower speed in a high speed network like fibre optic lines. It is announced that BT could offer starting speeds of 2.5 Mbps which, Fogg thinks as the low starting speed in a fibre-optic service in Europe.
Ian Fogg has commented:
"This is a trial and I see no reason why they aren't trialling the highest speed the technology can deliver. What is the point of a trial if you don't really test things?"
However, BT said that the customers will get minimum speed of 10 Mbps and this will cater all the needs of their customers. The customers can get much higher speeds depending upon the package.
Meanwhile, BBC reports that BT customers in Ebbsfleet will get ‘bursts of super fast speeds up to 100 Mbps.
BT could offer high speed broadband services to the population of more than 10,000 free of cost for the next two years. The project is yet to be approved by the telecom regulator, Ofcom which has already agreed to reduce the prices for 300 households in Ebbsfleet.
