Latest Fibre Broadband Upgrade Strategies Exposed by BT

The subsequent 178 places in line for fibre broadband upgrades from BT’s OpenReach have been declared.

Since the past year and a half, BT has been providing high-speed broadband connectivity throughout the UK in stages.

The company has recently announced the new list of telephone exchanges that will be outfitted with fibre optic broadband in the 8a, 8b and 9a phases of the continuing process of providing connectivity.

Regions in Leicester, Newport, Edinburgh, Stourbridge, Yeovil, Wigan and Glasgow will be some of the few who will have high-speed connections with households and business enterprises being provided with enhanced broadband speeds.

These most recent upgrades will help consumers to avail services like of 40Mb fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband services and the fibre-to the-premises at 100Mbp speeds.

Quicker downloads can be availed of from the fibre-to-the-premises service as a there is a fibre link instead of a copper one that is utilized between the home and the immediate BT street cabinet.

This means that data can be transmitted at faster speeds from the local exchange to the user and vice versa through the street cabinet,

CEO of BT OpenReach, Olivia Garfield stated that the company was making good progress with regard to its fibre strategies. She said that high-speed Internet connectivity was already just a hands length away for over six million buildings and households and that they were keep good pace to ensure that they would cross the ten million premises mark the coming year.

She however said that the company’s aspirations did not end with that. She stated that they would provide fibre optic connectivity to two thirds of the country by the end of 2014 and they have hopes to go even farther.

She said that it was imperative that they provide fibre optic access to as many homes and business houses as possible and therefore planned to bid for the BDUK funding that could be availed of.

Ms. Garfield declared that he expertise and experience that BT had in providing fibre networks at scale and the point that even wholesale users could avail of the facilities, made BT the perfect partner for both local and regional broadband ventures.

About 530 million pounds had been disbursed to various local offices throughout the UK to ensure that super-fast broadband connectivity was provided even in the rural areas of the country. In addition county councils are looking for private investments to aid with the upgrades.
