Labour MSP Mark Griffin to meet with BT
To ensure better broadband connections to the poorly connected areas of Cumbernauld, Mark Griffin Labour MSP decides to meet up with BT. He hopes that the fibre broadband rollout of BT will benefit Cumbernauld residents. Some of the areas in Cumbernauld experiences slow broadband speed and the new upgrade from BT could connect these regions with improved broadband service.
BT’s infrastructure work is ongoing and once it is completed, businesses and homes in the region can access faster broadband service. The upgrade is expected to finish by March. This upgrade plan is part of the telecom giant’s commitment to offering fibre optic broadband to two thirds of UK businesses and homes by 2014. BT’s investment made in Cumbernauld is welcomed by Mr Griffin, the Central Scotland representative.
MSP hopes to meet with BT before the telecom giant decides on the locations for the new super-fast broadband street cabinets. Mr Griffin said that he wants the poorest connected areas to benefit from the broadband rollout.
With the 40 new street cabinets, more people in the areas will benefit from a super fast and reliable broadband services. The upgrade could offer double broadband connection speeds to 16,670 businesses and homes. BT's director for Scotland, Brendan Dick said that the improvements in the BT’s infrastructure will enhance the quality of the broadband service within the town and in other areas of the country.
