Impressive performance by BT on Broadband and services
BT’s profit in the second quarter exceeded the forecast of analysts. This is mainly due to the increase in the number of subscribers and the profit from its Global Services units.
The gross profit rose by 3% to GBP 1.5 billion against the predicted GBP 1.45 billion. Its ‘share’ value in London trading increased by 3.1%.
BT has decided to advance the installation of fiber optic broadband by one year. This will be a blow for its competitors like Virgin Media and Fujitsu. The company expects that the profits from high speed broadband will compensate for the dull business in fixed line dealings.
Ian Livingstone of BT remarked that the part of the profit has been put in pension scheme, and the balance invested suitably.
The revenue in the second quarter dropped by 10% because BT had to shelve out GBP 410 million as per a ruling in Germany.
Saeed Baradar, a telecommunication sales specialist in London wrote that BT has proved that it is always for progress and growth, despite the odds. It gives important to the interest and requirement of the nation.
BT faces tough competition from Fujitsu, the reputed computer services provider. The Japanese company intends to utilize BT’s telecommunication set up to initiate a fiber optic network to cater to about 5 million premises at a cost of GBP 2 billion.
But Livingstone said that BT it self will undertake that responsibility.
As there is slump in global equities, BT’s pension deficit increased to GBP 2.5 billion in the quarter ending in September compared to the deficit of GBP 1.4 billion in the quarter ending in March.
