BT’s customer base enhances substantially due to fast broadband service.

In the quarter ending in September, BT managed to increase its subscriber strength by 90, 000 mainly because of its ‘Infinity fibre optic broadband service’. In fact 88,000 of the subscribers were for this particular category. With this, the total strength of those availing the company’s super fast broadband service has crossed the 300,000 mark. Ian Livingstone of BT is pleased at the interest of the public in his company. He assured that BT will be doing enormously in the following years to improve connectivity throughout the country. He expects full support from the government to achieve this. He is certain to provide 90% of the UK with fiber optic broadband within the next three years. There is bound to be further increase in the number of subscribers after 2014 as BT is determined to provide 66% of the premises its services by then, one year ahead of the original schedule. At least 520 technical personnel have been recruited to speed up the matter. Apart from enhancing its fiber broadband customer strength, BT also made inroads into the DSL market, with the addition of 166,000 fresh subscribers. This marks an increase of 46% over the previous year. With a total subscriber base of almost 6 million, BT will rein supreme among the broadband retailers in the UK. Its competitor Virgin Media has also put up a good show by signing up 178, 300 customers during previous quarter. Not less than one million house holds get download speeds of about 20 Mbps from the service provider.
