According to BT, the broadband service provider, most of the residents in the UK will be able to take advantage of the superfast broadband in the next five years.

Almost 90% of the properties in the UK will be able to avail advanced online services by the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017.

BT’s Ian Livingston remarked that there will be considerable increase in the number of homes and business concerns accessing the 2Mb broadband.

Livingston also stated that superfast broadband will pave the way for economic growth of the country.

800 engineers have been recruited to accelerate the progress of work, which is already going on impressively.

The company has got good support and encouragement from the government for its effort in striving for the country’s long term economic growth.

BT wants to invest GBP 2.5 billion for installing fiber optic cable, replacing the existing copper cable for the infra structure. It is concentrating on the urban areas as it is here that the broadband is essentially required.

Private sector service providers have been entrusted the job of meeting the needs of the rural areas.

The government’s fund of GBP 530 million for high speed broadband will be suitably distributed to the counties by Broadband Delivery UK. There is every chance that another GBP 300 million will be set apart for the purpose after the parliamentary election.

The government is also committed to allot GBP 100 million for providing ultra-fast digital networks in 10 important cities of the country.
