BT’s broadband plans for Scotland
About 47 communities in Scotland will be able to get download speeds of 20 Mbps thanks to the GBP 2.5 billion broadband plan of BT. This is much better than the speed in most parts of the UK, which is a mere 10 Mbps.
It means that by the next summer 72% of the Scottish premises will have fast broadband connection.
About 180,000 properties in Angus, Ayrshire, Fife, Grampian, the Highlands, Perthshire, and Stratchclyde, West Lothian and homes and business establishments in Lerwick will be able to avail 20 Mbpes by the next summer.
The investment by BT is in addition to the GBP 2.5 billion government plan.
Brendan Dick of ‘BT Scotland’ remarked that the company’s effort is going on at full swing. In early December, the company announced its plans for fiber broadband for 695.000 homes and businesses by the end of 2012.
Now BT has intention for copper broadband installation in a huge way as well.
The homes and businesses in places like Kirkwall and Lerwick will be benefited on account of BT’s initiative.
Dick confirms that BT is far ahead of other service providers in faster broadband installation in Scotland.
With economic uncertainty on the card, the broadband improvement plans of BT will be of great benefit to the households, businesses and students in Northern Isles also.
