BT to unveil its Physical Infrastructure Access
Very soon, BT’s ducts and poles could be accessed by rival providers to deliver broadband services. The project is progressing at a rapid rate and once completed BT will open its poles and ducts to other broadband providers. After successful trails, the company will Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product. The launch is in conjunction with their partners and Fujitsu. Hopefully, by the end of the month launch of the PIA will take place.
Fujitsu has offered fibre-to-the-home broadband service to the first batch of users in the Wirral Peninsula by making use of ducts and telegraph poles of BT. This has made them the advanced participant in the scheme. Considering the positive comments received from Fujitsu and other firms, BT will hurry up the launch the PIA commercially.
Once the program is introduced in the markets, the rival providers can make use of the BT’s infrastructure on an open wholesale basis. The poles and ducts can be rented by other providers to deliver their own fibre optic broadband services. Liv Garfield, Chief executive of Openreach suggested the importance of launching its PIA product soon.
The move will help the providers to deliver high speed broadband in areas outside the premeditated commercial footprint. More areas in the UK could get connected to super-fast broadband, with the cost-effective deployments.
