BT, one of the leading broadband network providers in the UK has announced that around 90,000 premises in Wales have been connected to faster broadband. The next rollout plan of BT includes another 17 communities in the Wales. Llanrwst is one of the communities that are going to be benefited from the rollout of next generation broadband service.

In Llanrwst, BT will be using copper lines for providing next generation broadband service. Thanks to the investment of BT the download speeds has gone up to 20 Mbps which is more than double the speeds previously available. BT has already invested 2.5 billion Pounds for the rollout of fibre-based broadband and this investment on copper line is in addition to that investment. The fibre based broadband would provide even faster speeds to two thirds of the UK businesses and households by the close of 2014.

Huw Cunnah of Ty furniture store, Llanrwst said that BT’s announcement that the broadband services in Llanrwst is going to be upgraded is really great. He told that his firm has to use internet for various purposes like communication with customers and suppliers and for downloading materials from internet. He added that 15% to 20% of his business is done through internet and getting superfast broadband access would help him a lot. He continued that with his smartphone he could check the website and do almost all his work and there is no need for laptop. He opined that Wales should have been provided with high-speed broadband access long back.

On an open wholesale basis the new service will be available to all companies. BT director for Wales, Ann Beynon said that as far as Wales is concerned it was a forward step. In this age of economic instability, for businesses to become more competitive, to work more flexibly and to find new customers faster broadband can help a lot. Faster internet helps to improve the online services available to families, internet users and home workers.

It is expected that by summer, 71% of the premises in Wales would be served by an exchange. The exchange would be upgraded in such a way that it could provide higher speeds to these premises. Kevin Hughes Mayor of Llanrwst welcomed the news and said that the superfast broadband is essential for rural communities and they are also equally entitled to enjoy the benefits of high-speed broadband access as now enjoyed by their counterparts elsewhere.
